The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a neutral and independent humanitarian organization. Its mandate to protect and assist the victims of armed conflicts and other situations of violence has been conferred on it by States through the four Geneva Conventions of 1949 as well as the Statutes of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
The ICRC has delegations in some 80 countries around the world and employs about 1,550 expatriate field staff and 10,500 local nationals. About 800 people provide essential back-up to the field operations from its headquarters in G
